During the debate on the “little reform” the opposition accused the Council of “political death”. And the regional health councillor responded: “I wish everyone to rise again in a better world, in a place, a region, where if you take a child to the hospital for tonsillitis he comes out alive”. The reference is to the case of little Natalie Tanda, from Villanova Monteleone, who died at 8 years old after undergoing tonsillitis surgery in Alghero. A tragedy that the Sassari Prosecutor’s Office is investigating to ascertain any responsibilities.
Bartolazzi's intervention sparked immediate polemical reactions in the Regional Council. But it didn't end there.
Forza Italia MP Pietro Pittalis has decided to bring the case to the attention of Parliament. Announcing a question to the Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, the regional secretary of the Azzurri attacked: «The declarations of the assessor are seriously offensive towards the entire category of doctors and health workers who work in Sardinian hospital facilities. It is the usual system now well tested by the representatives of the 5 Star Movement», accuses Pittalis, «of pointing the finger at others, in this case Sardinian doctors, to cover up their inadequacy and inefficiency».
The doctors didn't take it well either. The vice president of the Sassari order, Nicola Addis, claims that Bartolazzi "cannot express judgments of this type when an investigation is still underway, not even taking into account the pain of the family and colleagues".
