" The regional council and President Todde are proceeding without the necessary clarity regarding the reduction of Abbanoa 's share capital and the use of the company's reserves. Key documents are missing, cash flow strains are feared for 2026 without adequate measures being planned, and no assessment has been provided of discussions with the European Commission or of possible alternatives."

This was stated by Michele Ennas, regional secretary of the Lega Sardegna , in a statement on the eve of the Abbanoa shareholders' meeting , which will also discuss reducing the Region's share of the capital to below 20%, with a consequent proportional increase in the participation of municipal shareholders.

In this regard, the League denounces "the concrete risk that this operation will end up shifting responsibility onto local administrations. This voice must not go unheard."

"No one today," Ennas explains, "can guarantee that the operation won't result in more debt and higher rates. It's not enough to say that water must remain a public good if the actions taken could lead to a progressive weakening of public management itself, with the risk of a slide toward slow privatization."

"We're talking about the future of a resource that's fundamental to the lives of Sardinians," concludes the secretary of the Lega Sarda, "but in reality, we're avoiding any discussion on how to improve resource management, leaving fundamental issues for citizens ignored: service efficiency, tariff reduction, and infrastructure upgrades. These are priority issues that continue to be postponed."
