Dozens of construction sites for the redevelopment of water networks in various municipalities on the island will start in 2023.

33 Abbanoa contracts have been awarded, for a total amount of 27 million euros, resources that the water company has obtained through the European Fund for Development and Cohesion "FSC".

The Municipalities involved - In detail, the interventions concern the Municipalities of Alghero, Assemini, Arzachena, Bosa (2 lots), Budoni, Cagliari, Carbonia, Galtellì, Iglesias (2 lots), Irgoli, La Maddalena, Macomer (2 lots), Muravera, Nuoro, Olbia, Orosei (2 lots), Oristano, Ozieri, Porto Torres, Quartucciu, Santa Teresa di Gallura, San Teodoro, Sarroch, Sassari (2 lots), Selargius, Sestu, Siniscola and Sorso.

«It is a program - explains a note from Abbanoa - which is part of a broader strategy, which involves 235 Municipalities, aimed at countering the critical issues present in most of the island's water networks. The efficiency of the water networks - continues a note from the company - is based on a study aimed at allowing the districtisation of the networks through the use of technologically advanced systems in controlling the correct functioning of the service with the aim of making it more efficient. The interventions to be carried out are also defined both through ordinary maintenance works and through specific investment channels such as that relating to the 33 contracts awarded».

New investments - A further 39 tenders, for a total amount of a further 38 million euros, again relating to the "FSC" funds, will be announced and awarded by 30 June 2023. Overall, the tenders called by Abbanoa in 2022, only for public works, are 56 for a total of 58 million euros. Numbers destined to grow further in 2023: in fact, 116 tenders for a total of 162 million euros are already scheduled for next year.

Saving water - «The fundamental commitment that Abbanoa is pursuing – concludes the company – is the redevelopment of water networks with high rates of dispersion. On this front, the Sole Operator has also obtained a further important loan of 50 million euros from the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) funds, in relation to which the tender for the design of the interventions has already started.
