A multifaceted artist with an extraordinary career, whose successes span from music to film: American trumpeter, singer, and composer Jumaane Smith, a collaborator on five Grammy Award-winning albums and a longtime sidekick to Michael Bublé, is coming to Cagliari and Sassari for The Jazz Club Network dates. Smith and his quartet will perform at the Jazzino in Cagliari on Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th, before moving to the Vecchio Mulino in Sassari on Sunday the 19th. This is another highlight of the 2025 program, organized by CeDac and the Il Jazzino association.
Jumaane Smith is one of those artists who, though often behind the scenes and without attracting much attention, has shaped contemporary jazz history over the past thirty years: not only have his five Grammy-winning albums sold over sixty million copies and his trumpet accompanied Bublé for over eighteen years, but the artist also starred and played in Spielberg's unforgettable film "West Side Story," as well as being nominated for Emmys for two television performances and playing alongside Stevie Wonder in a legendary Grammy Award performance. And if this didn't already make him a unique craftsman, it's impossible not to mention his contributions to Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Alicia Keys, and many other big names, as well as a solo career divided between studio albums—the acclaimed "I Only Have Eyes For You," "When You're Smiling," and "Come on Home"—and soundtracks for interactive films. After appearing on some of the world’s most iconic jazz stages, including Jazz At Lincoln Center and Birdland Jazz Club, Smith now brings his music to the Island, joined by a quartet of musicians Lorin Cohen (bass), Elijah Cole (guitar), and Carmen Intorre Jr. (drums), for three evenings of pure jazz mastery.
While the debut concert on Friday the 17th at Jazzino will feature a single set at 9:30 PM, Saturday night will feature two sets (one at 7:30 PM and the other at 10:00 PM), both at the Cagliari venue. For Sunday's date, Smith and company will move to the Vecchio Mulino in Sassari, where the music will begin at 7:00 PM.
