He played in Serie A with Cagliari , one of the most loved Sardinian players of the rossoblù team in the 1980s, he taught football to many kids. Sandro Loi, after telling part of his footballing past , declares that he is now done with football . Sandrino Loi's career as a footballer starts from the Cagliari youth sector which gives the Cagliari defender a fiery debut in Serie A: «Certainly not a trivial match. The debut was against Juventus . He finished one by one at Sant'Elia. A great emotion." The coach Mario Tiddia has an eye for the Sardinian footballers and Loi together with Piras are immovable starters: «In addition to the debut against Juventus, I remember the 3-1 victory at San Siro against Inter as if it were today. Perhaps the success that gave me the most satisfaction."
In 1985, after five seasons, Loi left Cagliari and moved to Tuscany to Prato where he remained for two years. After which he returned to Sardinia on the Torres side and it was here that he would end his professional football career. Positional sense, good feet and speed were the main characteristics that Loi brought to the pitch as a footballer and they are the same ones that he teaches to kids who want to approach the world of football. «From 1997 until 2022 I was an instructor in the Cagliari youth sector, in addition to teaching technique I was able to give great motivation to my boys. The greatest satisfaction for a coach is to see his kids play professionally on a regular basis, at least that's how it is for me."
In ten years of professional football there are many teammates that Loi has admired and wants to pay homage to: «One above all Mario Brugnera . But I cannot fail to mention the striker Gigi Piras and the coach Mario Tiddia, authentic champions on and off the pitch." Loi doesn't see many differences between the football of 40 years ago and that of today: «The real difference lies in training methodologies, nutrition, medical research and technology. Perhaps also because this is now a football made less and less of poetry, heart and passion and more and more of TV, money and ephemeral success ." Loi decides to take a step back: «I took away a lot of satisfaction but now I'm done with football. My son lives in Bangkok and so I travel between continents very often, so I no longer have time for football ."
