A nearly crippled Dinamo was outclassed in Reggio Emilia 90-68. The defeat almost certainly cost them their spot in the Italian Cup. The Sassari team arrived on the Emilian court with too many absences: so much so that coach Mrsic had to insert Ceron into the starting five given the absences of Beliauskas (injured) and Zanelli (flu). Furthermore, Buie wasn't at his best and played at two cylinders. Add to this the terrifying night in three-point shooting: 1 for 18, a record since they've been in Serie A. Up front, only McGlynn (14 points) and Thomas (13 in the second half) stood out.
News report – Sassari capitalized on McGlynn, who scored the first six points, but their guards almost never scored from the field. Reggio Emilia took heart and, with a first-quarter run and a second-quarter run, broke away, even reaching an 18-point lead before halftime, 46-31. The 0-of-11 three-pointers were telling, with Buie (injured) going 0-of-4 at halftime.
Nothing changes in the third quarter. McGlynn makes a few baskets from deep and very little else from the field, as aside from free throws, Dinamo continues to struggle with the rim from long range: 0-for-13 at 26' and 24 points behind. Suffice it to say that Mezzanotte scores the first three-pointer at 32'. The game is already over, however.
