"150 years after the birth of Grazia Deledda, the Republic celebrates a woman of great talent, a sensitive and profound writer, a personality who has given prestige to the country up to - the only Italian woman - the Nobel Prize for literature in 1927" .
These are the words of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the great Sardinian writer.
Grazia Deledda, continues the head of state in a note dedicated to the author, "felt the strength of her roots in the Sardinia that gave her birth and made her participate in that humanity that she then described with realism in her stories intense and dramatic. For the most part she provided for her own cultural training and also for the start of her career as a writer: her personal tenacity was not a secondary reason for her success and for the appreciation she was able to win among European writers. With commitment and perseverance he continued to work and perfect his expressive skills, even after the first successful novels. This allowed her to develop her rich inner world in her stories ".
The narration of Grazia Deledda, adds the President of the Republic, "had a strong ethical charge, which contributed to making universal the pain, the warmth, the feelings of the characters drawn from her land. Her vision of human existence, combined with quality of the works, was fully recognized in the motivations of the Nobel, which exalted her power as a writer, supported by a high ideal. A legacy that makes the patrimony of Italian literature even richer ".
