A Lego bust for Gigi Riva's 79th birthday: it was created in over a month of work and with 12 thousand colored bricks by the Sardinian brickbuilder Maurizio Lampis, known internationally for having reproduced Piazza San Marco in Venice and the Fountain of Trevi of Rome.

Lampis used as a model a photo of Rombo di Tuono which appeared in all the sports newspapers on the initiative of Cagliari in 2014, on the occasion of the champion's 70th birthday. One of his most iconic images: 1969-70 season (that of the scudetto), Gigi Riva with the white Quattro Mori shirt, arms folded and a proud look.

The greatest rossoblù footballer of all time with his 207 goals and still the national team's best scorer (35 goals in 42 appearances) turns 79 next Tuesday, 7 November.

Maurizio Lampis' work was complicated: «The idea was born months ago while browsing the Internet and discovering two Lego creations by players like Totti and Lewandosky. So I said to myself, Riva is a myth, why not reproduce it? In recent years I have done everything but I have never reproduced a physical person, the technique is different since we are talking about a shape that includes well-defined curves and features".

«Obviously – continues Lampis – it is impossible to make a perfect copy of the original as they are square bricks, but I am satisfied».

The work will be visible from the next few days at the Karalisbrick Brick Museum in Cagliari, but as a preview it will be presented to Gigi Riva himself who has already decided to autograph the pedestal of the bust.
