The Africa Cup of Nations is over for Joseph Liteta, while Zito Luvumbo's only hope is a (difficult) repechage among the top third-placed teams. Monday was a disappointing one for the two Cagliari players involved in the ongoing tournament in Morocco, both of whom started the third-round matches.

Luvumbo played 64 minutes in the 0-0 draw between Angola and Egypt this afternoon, before being replaced by Benson. Despite their opponents having already qualified, Angola failed to win or score and finished with two points in the group. To advance to the round of 16, the only hope is for the third-placed team in Group C, scheduled for tomorrow at 5 p.m., to have fewer points or a lower head-to-head ranking (currently Nigeria 6, Tunisia 3, Tanzania and Uganda 1, with Tanzania-Tunisia and Uganda-Nigeria also scheduled). If that happens, they would advance to the round of 16 as the last-best third-placed team.

For Liteta, however, the Africa Cup of Nations is already over. Zambia lost 0-3 to hosts Morocco that evening, effectively ending their chances of qualifying, finishing in last place with two points. The Cagliari midfielder, who started, was substituted at halftime (with the score at 2-0) in what was his only appearance of the tournament.
