A BBC report in Bolotana, in the places of Benjamin Piercy, the engineer who built the Sardinian railway network.
Director Michael Portillo, a former minister under Margaret Thatcher, and the BBC crew were enchanted by those fairytale places on the Bolotana mountain, where the Piercy villa stands, surrounded by a garden of native plants, exotic varieties and singular tree crosses.
They were enchanted not only by the places, but also by the characters who made history from the second half of the nineteenth century to the middle of the last century, so Benjamin Piercy, then his son Herbert, his granddaughter Vera and many other characters. Enraptured by the warm voice of Maria Giovanna Cherchi who, together with the president of the association named after Piercy, Mario Bussa, was the protagonist of the filming for a TV series that will be broadcast in various parts of the world and on Rai5 in Italy.
The filming took place in Badde Salighes, while Piercy's first real home, in Macomer, the old station hotel (now in ruins for decades), was completely ignored and neglected especially by public institutions, the Region in particular. The building was built in 1880, the year of the official inauguration of the Royal Railways.
