A tribute to Costantino Nivola and the artistic collaboration with the architect Le Corbusier is the point from which Cristian Chironi drew inspiration to design a series of performances that will now take place in New York State between Springs, New York City and Cold Spring from 12 to 17 October.

An initiative that is part of the two-year program of the Magazzino Italian Art, which began in 2017 with Walking Sculpture by Michelangelo Pistoletto and continued in 2019 with Marinella Senatore and The School of Narrative Dance.

“New York Drive” is organized as part of the “Nivola: Sandscapes” exhibition, which can be visited at the Museo Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Spring until next January 10th.

Chironi, born in Nuoro and raised between Orani and Ottana, will use a Fiat 127 for his performance whose colors will change from time to time and are inspired by the relationship between Nivola and Le Corbusier, as well as by "Untitled (totem)", one of the first colored totems created by the artist.

The invitation to the public is to get into the car, which will change color at each stage: "After more than forty years - explains Chironi - I will remember the important journey that Costantino Nivola's nephew made for his uncle, using a vehicle of the same type during the performances, which will take place in different locations. I look forward to meeting the passengers who will join me on this series of car rides, to learn about their personal stories and to share an experience of discovering each other. of the other and of the areas of New York that we will cross together ".

During the stages of the performance, the Sardinian artist will be accompanied by numerous co-pilots, professionals from the art world, gallery owners, journalists, activists, philanthropists, students and teachers.
