A new test of IT-alert, the public warning system, is scheduled for Wednesday 15 May in Sardinia. Around 11 am, a test message will arrive on mobile phones with a telephone connection in the area of the municipalities of Orosei, Siniscola and Posada, in the province of Nuoro, which will simulate a tsunami generated by an earthquake.

As in the case of previous tests, whoever receives the message has nothing to fear, and will only have to read the text message, which refers to the web page of the IT-alert site where it will be possible to view the real text that citizens would receive in case of alarm for that specific risk.

On the page there will also be a link to the questionnaire, which both those who have correctly received the message and those who, despite being in the test area, have not received the notification are invited to answer.

The IT-alert system has already been operational since February 13th for risks relating to nuclear accidents or radiological emergency situations, major accidents in industrial plants, collapse of a large dam and volcanic activity in the areas of Campi Flegrei, Vesuvius and the Vulcano island.

The risk scenario relating to a tsunami generated by an earthquake, such as those linked to intense rainfall and the volcanic activity of Stromboli, instead required additional analyzes and checks which led to the extension of the testing phase.
