The preview of “Chenamos in carrela” dedicated to “Foraging and spontaneous herbs”, held in the wonderful natural context of Monte Minerva, was a success in terms of attendance. A tangible sign of the growing interest in an important branch of our traditional culture which, with the advent of modernity, was first neglected and then largely forgotten by the community.

The initiative, organized by the Proloco of Villanova Monteleone under the general coordination of the food and wine expert Tommaso Sussarello, saw Gianpaolo Demartis from Sassari as an expert, who accompanied the curious on an immersive journey into nature and the world of edible and medicinal herbs . On a beautiful sunny spring day, borage (limbuda or limboina) emerged from the ground, excellent for accompanying numerous dishes, then chicory (sa tzicòria), wild radicchio (su pabantzolu), milk thistle (su 'ardu), mallow (sa prammutza) and even parietaria, a very common plant often associated with allergies, which is actually very effective in the island's pharmacopoeia. «These are herbs that until fifty years ago – explained Demartis – were never missing from the pantries of Sardinian families, preserved in jars waiting to be used to cure themselves but above all to avoid getting sick. At least 250 edible plants grow in our land and perhaps even 400 can be used in pharmacopoeia."

The workshop continued under the coordination of Sussarello in the conference room of the CEASMonte Minerva, where chef Fabio Zago illustrated to those present the preparation of a sauce based on wild herbs. The event was organized and promoted by the Proloco of Villanova Monteleone in collaboration with the Municipality, the Forestas regional agency, the Sardinia Nature association and the Locanda Minerva.
