Difficult life for mothers in Sardinia, a region in the last places in many areas of Save the Children's "Mother's index", a focus on the well-being of mothers in our country between rights, available services, economic and social conditions.

In the organisation's report, entitled "Le Equilibriste - Maternity in Italy 2024", the Island is in sixteenth place overall, but remains at the bottom in the demography sector, which analyzes the average number of children per woman or the fertility rate . Also bad in the ranking for representation in political bodies, where the island is nineteenth .

Things seem to be going better - so to speak - as regards the item of the report dedicated to Health , which takes into consideration the infant mortality rate and the public and private health facilities accredited for consultancy activities for every 10 thousand inhabitants. Here the Island places itself in ninth place, but compared to 2022 it has lost three positions.

As far as work is concerned, things go down further: Sardinia is in 12th place , with indicators that take into account the employment rate of mothers with minor children, involuntary part-time work for women, the number of women employed in fixed-term jobs for at least 5 years and the quantity of resignations for mothers with children between zero and three years.

Sardinian mothers gain a position regarding Services , from twelfth to eleventh place. In this field, Sardinia is the only region in the South with values higher than the national average.

Again: under Subjective satisfaction (satisfaction with the work done and with women's free time) the Island is thirteenth , but gains two positions compared to the previous year.

Finally, in the Violence domain (which takes into consideration anti-violence centers and shelters), the Island is in twelfth place.
