«The fire that broke out on Wednesday afternoon, close to the Selargius Roma camp, could have had much more serious consequences for the people who have been living for years in a situation of unacceptable abandonment and degradation».

This is the position of Stefano Colaneri, of the Asce association (Sardinian association against marginalization), after the fire that occupied the fire brigade teams along State Road 387 for many hours.

«For years we have been asking the municipal administration to give the families - of the camp - about 70 people with numerous minors - dignified accommodation, real houses and not shacks, following virtuous models such as that of the municipalities of Porto Torres, Olbia and Carbonia. The resources are there, it seems to us that the political will is lacking", underlines Colaneri.

Asce agrees with the mayors of Selargius and Settimo when they say that it is an alarming situation, «but the two administrations should explain why it has reached this point and quickly find a housing solution agreed with the Roma families. Let's not wait a new fire", is the exhortation, "let's not wait for a tragedy to occur for which only the institutions can be responsible which in recent years, despite having resources and tools, have ignored the problem if not deliberately allowed the situation to become explosive ».
