Yesterday's fire along state road 387 is causing quite a bit of controversy and anger. The flames created a thick blanket of smoke up to the cultivated fields and caused inconvenience to motorists and those who live in the area, on the border between Settimo San Pietro and Selargius.

The mayor of Settimo himself, Gigi Puddu, wrote a letter to the prefect complaining about yet another fire in recent years on 387 , with the flames also attacking car carcasses and other waste of all kinds.

«What happened - wrote Puddu - is just the umpteenth episode, given that this absurd situation has been going on for many years. A problem that we have repeatedly reported and denounced also through discussions with the prefecture: this phenomenon, which has become habitual, is causing a very serious danger to the environment surrounding the Roma camp and therefore also to the public health of the citizens who reside in the area".

Puddu concludes by recalling that «in the surrounding area there are private homes but also numerous artisan and agricultural businesses important for the social and economic development of the area». For this reason he asks for immediate intervention from the prefect to coordinate a concrete counteraction.
