Emergency rescue on the island of Asinara for a 10 year old boy taken ill . It happened on the night between 6 and 7 May, when the Coast Guard of Porto Torres intervened to guarantee the transport by sea , from Asinara to the Turritan seaport, of a child staying at an accommodation facility on the island.

The rescue operation began at 2am, when the 118 control unit communicated the medical emergency to the operations room of the Port Authority. The Turritana Maritime Authority immediately took action to send the employee patrol boat CP 810 on which the 118 medical staff was also taken on board in order to be able to guarantee first aid on site to the child, who was seized by convulsions in the middle of the night , and the consequent safe transport to Porto Torres.

The rescue operations ended at around 4am, when the child, having disembarked at the Captaincy dock, was transported by ambulance of the 118 service to the pediatric department of the Sassari hospital to receive the necessary treatment. The medical evacuation procedure by sea periodically sees Coast Guard patrol boats engaged in an activity where operational readiness is essential to quickly ensure the victim receives the necessary medical care. To better deal with this type of emergency, in view of the imminent start of the summer season, the memorandum of understanding stipulated between the Local Health Authority of Sassari, the municipality of Porto Torres, the 'Conservatory Agency of the Sardinian coasts, the Asinara Island Park Authority, the Port Authority of Porto Torres and the Italian Rescue Corps of the Order of Malta (CISOM) for the institution, in the period from 1st June to 30 September, of a fixed 24-hour health center with a logistics base based in the 'Cala d'Oliva' area and a second clinic at 'La Reale'.

The service is aimed at ensuring an initial health intervention for the population who, for any reason, transits or is on the island of Asinara, especially during periods of greatest influx. In addition to providing initial care, the service will ensure every necessary contact with the Maritime Authority and with the local and health authorities, possibly aimed at organizing, if deemed necessary at the exclusive and unquestionable discretion of the doctor on duty, the transport of the patient to the 'island .
