Expensive flights and plane tickets to Sardinia in the sights of the Antitrust . Under the spotlight of the Competition and Market Authority are the algorithms used by airlines to define the prices of travel tickets . From there the start of a market survey to analyze the demand for flights to the island and Sicily and understand the motivations and parameters underlying travellers' purchasing choices.

With regard to the open proceedings on algorithms, started on 14 November 2023 following a formal complaint from Codacons, the Antitrust today communicated the decision to order the market investigation , entrusting the task of carrying out the analysis to the company Doxa , which will have to present the final report of the investigation by May 15, 2024.

«We are satisfied with the Antitrust's decision to get to the bottom of the issue of flight prices, expanding the ongoing investigation and asking for consumers' contribution to better understand the demand for tickets to and from Sicily and Sardinia. - states President Carlo Rienzi - Our hope is that a concrete result can be achieved before the summer, when the prices of airline tickets will soar as a result of the departures of Italians, enormously worsening citizens' spending on summer holidays" .
