«Corruption»: investigations into the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez
Madrid court spotlights Begona Gomez after a complaint from a right-wing trade union about an alleged abuse of privileged informationThe investigation section no. 4 of the Court of Madrid has opened a preliminary investigation against Begona Gomez, wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, to investigate the alleged relationships with some private companies receiving public contracts and funds.
The investigation was opened on the basis of a complaint presented by the far-right union Manos Limpias and aims to ascertain whether or not the crimes of abuse of privileged information and corruption are committed.
The complaint, in particular, refers to alleged meetings held in 2020 by Gomez with the managing director of Air Europe, the airline that received 475 million for the rescue by the Spanish State, and to the fact that Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez participated at the session of the Council of Ministers which approved the financing decree.
The state Office for Conflicts of Interest, activated by the opposition People's Party, has already expressed its opinion on the facts in question, dismissing the complaint as it has "no legal basis" and concluding that Prime Minister Sanchez should not abstain from the resolution .
