Saman Abbas was not killed for opposing an arranged marriage . The judges of the Court of Assizes of Reggio Emilia wrote this in the motivation of the sentence on the murder of the 18-year-old of Pakistani origins which occurred in Novellara.

This, they point out, "is an element that takes nothing away and adds nothing to the gravity of the fact, but which corresponds to a truth that the Court is required to highlight".

The Court in December sentenced the father, Shabbar Abbas, and the mother, Nazia Shaheen, to life imprisonment, and the uncle Danish Ansain to 16 years. Cousins Ikram Ijaz and Nomanhulaq Nomanhulaq were released from prison.

According to the judges, behind the murder there was the family's opposition to the lifestyle chosen by Saman, who continued the relationship with her boyfriend Saqib and planned to run away from home . "Everything happens and is decided on the occasion of Saman's ongoing relationship with Saqib and the girl's intention to leave home."

THE MOTHER MATERIAL EXECUTOR

Furthermore, according to the judges, the material perpetrator of the crime could have been the mother. "The defendants Abbas Shabbar and Shaheen Nazia literally accompanied their daughter to her death and it cannot be ruled out that the mother was the material executor ", we read in the over 600 pages of the sentence, which motivates the responsibilities of the girl's parents.

Again: «Eloquent and expressive» are the movements of the two, filmed by the cameras of the farmhouse in Novellara, on the night of 30 April 2021. The mother, in a firm and determined way, blocking her husband with a resolute gesture, moves onto the carriage road with Saman "for that minute which does not allow us to exclude that she was the material executor". The husband, who "appears tormented, adopting attitudes that reflect the drama of what is happening, but which he remains to observe, without doing anything" . Thus confirming "his full psychological adherence to the fact".

The crime was not premeditated . The decision, according to the judges, would have been agreed upon during telephone calls with his uncle Danish Hasnain on the evening of April 30th. The decision was taken on the same evening as the murder and "in a completely impromptu manner" .

Saman's brother, who spoke of a meeting between relatives to make plans to assassinate Saman, is considered unreliable due to too many inconsistencies, lies and false accusations, in addition to the 120 "I don't remember". According to the Court, the video of April 29th, the one where the uncle and cousins are seen with some tools in their hands (according to the prosecution, intent on digging the grave), is not proof, in fact there would be elements to confirm that they were going to do some activity for their employer.
