The water has reached almost all of Burcei, in the lower part of the town the situation seems to have returned to normal . The suffering is greater in the higher part of the town. After a week of very heavy inconveniences, the situation is still scary, so much so that the mayor Simone Monni and the council are threatening to resign.
The town has been living in a state of constant emergency for years, with the water network bursting frequently, leaving the taps of Burcei dry . There have also been many meetings, even recent ones, with Abbanoa. A document states that "following the continuous disservices and a situation that has become unsustainable and which, among other things, determines the danger of serious repercussions also on public health, caused by the now chronic lack of water, the Mayor and the Council are seriously evaluating the possibility of contacting the Prefect and resigning".
The note continues as follows: " A decision certainly not taken lightly but matured and reasoned , given all the efforts made to find solutions that up to now, unfortunately despite having shown ourselves to be collaborative beyond our competence, have not led to the achievement of the desired result".
«In these months», the Board reports, «we have worked on various solutions which, by way of example and not exhaustively, we submit to everyone's attention:
- constant and numerous telephone conversations, day and night, with Abbanoa managers and technicians;
- numerous meetings in various institutional venues;
- 24-hour telephone availability of administration members.
Of all the interventions promised in the short term, to date nothing is seen, except for some stopgap interventions useful only to delude ourselves that water can return to being what it should be, that is, a right and therefore a continuous service".
And then again: "The mayor and the council have worked continuously to ensure that this problem is solved in a reasonable time. Among the agreements made, we can recall Abbanoa's commitment to clean up and use the sources present in the town, to plug any disruptions to the main pipeline, and the commitment to permanently waterproof the main pipeline, with the consequent definitive resolution of the leaks that now occur daily. Without prejudice to the availability of Abbanoa's operators, the only tangible action, however, is the presence of a tanker that in theory should meet the needs of an entire town . In reality, this buffer action has proven to be totally insufficient".
"As always, the administration has worked to the maximum of its competence to guarantee the service due to all citizens", he reports. " In light of these very brief considerations, however, we believe that despite our continuous commitment, given the state of the art, we cannot but seriously consider resigning , considering that all the efforts made on our part have not led to the solution of a problem that we first demand be solved".
"It is a difficult decision because we know that we are supported by the majority of citizens who have not failed to show us their closeness, aware of who is really responsible for this situation (i.e. Abbanoa), in the face of the usual few well-known figures who never miss an opportunity to try to discredit the commitment and work of the administration with false and biased news spread knowingly (and these people are not excusable) and not knowingly (to these instead goes our human understanding). Until the last minute, however, our commitment will be guaranteed and tomorrow we will also be, as the City Council, under the Abbanoa building to continue our protest which as always will certainly be civil and polite but no less strong ."
