Sassuolo-Cagliari, Chiffi to referee the match that restarts Serie A

Serie A resumes on Saturday, following Italy's humiliating third straight elimination from the World Cup , with Sassuolo-Cagliari. The match at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia kicks off the thirty-first matchday of the championship with an early kickoff at 3:00 PM. Daniele Chiffi of the Padua section will referee the match. He will be assisted by assistants Dario Cecconi (Empoli) and Dario Garzelli (Livorno), fourth official Luca Massimi (Termoli), VAR assistant Gianluca Aureliano (Bologna), and assistant Rodolfo Di Vuolo (Castellammare di Stabia).
This is Chiffi's first match of the season with Cagliari, but his tenth overall. In his nine previous meetings, there have been three wins, two draws, and four defeats . His Serie B debut was on December 12, 2015, a 1-1 draw at Livorno. His last win was on October 15, 2022 (a 2-1 win against Brescia, also in Serie B), and his only win in Serie A was on October 20, 2019, a 2-0 win against Spal. Their last meeting was on October 22, 2023, a 2-2 draw at home to Salernitana, sparking controversy over a penalty awarded to the Campania side at the last minute.
