The debate on the Region's "moratorium" to limit the onslaught of energy speculators from renewable sources began yesterday afternoon and will continue today in the Council. The Todde council is seeking an agreement with the centre-right opposition to approve a unitary measure.
During the election campaign, the president and the majority were against the wind attack. It was the battle to be fought. Things have changed, at least on an operational level: «We must behave like a serious Region», says governor Alessandra Todde today. But the 6.2 gigawatts to be produced by 2030 assigned to the Island by the Eligible Areas decree remain an enormous quantity.
The Council's bill aimed at controlling the onslaught of photovoltaic blades and panels, which has been under consideration in the Chamber since yesterday, is perfectly in line with the provision adopted by Pichetto Fratin. Yesterday too, the committees against energy speculation asked for a change of direction and for the president to retract the agreement given to the Eligible Areas decree, but Alessandra Todde immediately made it clear that she wanted the bill to be approved without any substantial modification, and in this direction The general discussion on the moratorium took place yesterday.
From the Council's point of view, this is not a bill against wind turbines which are devastating for the Sardinian landscape, but rather a bill to encourage the energy transition. It is clear from the words of the president ("We must make an energy transition with an energy mix that includes renewables, gas, and the closure of coal power plants") and also from those of the councilor for urban planning Francesco Spanedda, signatory of the amendment to the moratorium which identifies the areas where plants cannot be built: «The basic idea is to still allow the insertion of new plants which then contribute to the achievement of the overall objective without further consumption of land».
