Due to an impediment by the Court of Assizes of Cagliari, the opening of the trial against Masih Shahid , the 30-year-old Pakistani accused of the attempted murder of his ex-partner, Paola Piras , aged 52, and of the murder of the woman's son, Mirko Farci , aged 19, who had tried strenuously to defend his mother from the attack that took place on 11 May 2021 in their home in Tortolì.

In a few minutes, the chairman of the hearing Simone Nespoli announced the unavailability of the effective president of the Court, Giovanni Massidda, announcing the postponement of the opening of the trial to September . The defendant was present in the courtroom, defended by the lawyer Federico Delitala, while the victim's mother and family have already filed a civil action from the preliminary hearing with the lawyers Marcello Caddori and Paolo Pilia.

Paola Piras , who had remained in a coma for months following the 17 stab wounds inflicted by Shahid, was then declared out of danger .

Representing the accusation before the Court of Assizes of Cagliari is the prosecutor Giovanna Morra, deputy prosecutor in Lanusei.
