“Sassari mannu” is his most famous collection of poems. Born in 1857, Pompeo Calvia was a poet, novelist, writer, painter, art critic, but above all an observer of his city and a cultural animator between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century together with Sebastiano Satta, Luigi Falchi, Enrico Costa, Mario Paglietti and Antonio Ballero.

On Thursday 11 April the municipal administration will name the study room of the Historical Archive in via dell'Insinuazione after him at 10.30.

The ceremony will begin with the mayor Nanni Campus and the councilor for culture Virginia Orunesu who will unveil the plaque . The room was chosen with the intention of naming a public venue in memory of Calvia with specific reference to the conservation and transmission of the history and culture of the city , as recognition for the high cultural profile of Pompeo Calvia's literary activity, dialect poet who contributed significantly to defining the identity of Sassari.

After the naming ceremony, the conference room of the Historical Archive will host the meeting entitled " Management, conservation and enhancement of archives in person. The new acquisitions of the Historical Archive of the Municipality of Sassari ”.

Speakers will include Carla Merella, head of the historical archives of the Municipality of Sassari, Giuliano Lampis of the Municipality of Sassari, Monica Grossi, archival superintendent for Sardinia and Enrico Fenu of the Archival Superintendency for Sardinia.
