There could be two other cases of Omicron in Sardinia, and this time in Sassarese.

After the passenger returned after a trip to South Africa who traveled on the Rome-Alghero flight and a close contact with him, which tested positive for the variant, and the case of the woman from Cagliari who returned from London, now the fear is of two other infections in the north of 'Island.

The confirmation on the sequencing will arrive only at Christmas from the Aou laboratory in Sassari which has already taken charge of the positive swabs. But according to what transpires, the analyzes have not given correspondence with other known variants and therefore it is assumed that it is an Omicron variant.

On the island, the bulletin issued yesterday reported 259 new positives for Covid and no further victims. There are 12 patients admitted to intensive care units, while 119 are in the medical area.

In Sardinia, attention remains maximum, and to cope with the emergency a Covid department has already been reopened at the Santissima Trinità in Cagliari, a set of beds that will be added to that of the Binaghi, the garrison that last spring had replaced the Is Mirrionis hospital in assisting Covid patients.

As for the new variant, the first estimates indicate "it could be five to 6 times more contagious than the Delta", and about "ten times more contagious than the original virus".

A speed of infection, therefore, never seen before, and which arouses many fears in view of the upcoming holidays and with new restrictions under consideration by the Government and already expected with the control room scheduled for 23 December.
