The cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in Sardinia rise to 5. The last two tests, sequenced in the laboratory of clinical chemical analysis and microbiology of the Aou of Cagliari, are added to the three already ascertained in recent days between Sassarese and Cagliaritano.

And then there is a further suspected case together with the two who are being examined by the Aou laboratory in Sassari and for which the results will not be known before Christmas. "We are still completing the tracing but probably these are imported cases - explains the medical director of the Aou of Cagliari, Ferdinando Coghe, former director of the microbiology laboratory - the age of the subjects is between 40 and 55 years".

"Until now - he adds - the predominant variant was the Delta, then the Delta plus also arrived but now Omicron is appearing which, for a biological reason, is much faster and will tend to take the place of Delta. As it happens with the flu there is no vaccine that absolutely prevents the development of the disease, but these sera offer the possibility of contracting a more manageable clinical form and it has also been seen that the window of contagion is much narrower ".
