With the approach of Christmas and the risk of the orange zone throughout the country, the control room is set for next 23 December in which further decisions will be made to stem the spread of Covid , and especially the Omicron variant.
On the government table there is a further extension of the vaccination obligation to particular categories of greater contact with the public. The assessment would also be made on the basis of the results of the new flash survey requested by the Ministry of Health to calculate the number of cases - and the possible prevalence - of the Omicron variant in Italy, which will be carried out today.
Giuseppe Chessa, provincial president of the Order of Doctors has no doubts: “I can't understand why we go on bit by bit, category by category. We must decide on the vaccination obligation for everyone, immediately, and we are already late. On the other hand, the state of emergency has been extended to March 31, and then it seems more than logical to impose immunization on the entire population currently vaccinated ”.
For Gabriele Mereu, head of Vaccinoprophylaxis at Ats Sud Sardegna, "given the situation, with the Omicron variant that is invading Europe - now in dark red in the ECDC maps - any action that extends the vaccination obligation is welcome . I believe that first of all we have to complete the three big categories - health, law enforcement and teachers - and then start with the obligation also for all students. The virus has become a pediatric disease, the no vaxes and children are getting sick ( Capoterra is an example ) so the injection must be mandatory from 5 years upwards. On the other hand, there are already vaccines necessary for the 0-16 year old group, and they are also against diseases that are now completely under control, so it is natural to do so also for Covid, we are in an emergency, health is involved. of people and the saturation of hospitals and intensive care, we must hurry ”.
SWABS FOR VACCINATES - But there is also talk of a measure that is causing discussion, that of obliging vaccinated people to make tampons for parties and big events - therefore even where it should be possible to organize parties - and to extend the use of outdoor masks. The shortening of the duration of the green certificate to seven or five months is also under consideration.
“The Green pass has the validity that we know, but in a month it could be rethought. If Omicron misses the vaccine, it means it's a completely different virus. Now this Green pass makes sense but with another completely different variant things can change ”, reflects Guido Rasi, scientific advisor to the extraordinary Commissioner for the Covid emergency.
CROWD IN CAGLIARI - In Cagliari, meanwhile, the last Sunday to make Christmas gifts, even for the second year of the pandemic, is the same as it has always been. Crowds in the shopping streets already in the morning, with thousands of Cagliari spread out between via Manno, via Garibaldi, the Corso, via Paoli. Traffic paralyzed in via Roma and Largo Carlo Felice.
In short, a red dot day. On the one hand, the traders rejoice, who thus find an important breath of fresh air. On the other hand, the delicate situation of the contagions still remains difficult, it is no coincidence that Palazzo Bacaredda has already established the obligation to wear a mask outdoors for the holiday period since the end of November: a measure that, in general, is followed by Cagliari, only a little less from groups of young people and some adults.
