The decision came almost unexpectedly. The Court of Appeal of Rome has released Beniamino Zuncheddu, the pastor sentenced to life imprisonment for the Sinnai massacre, committed on 8 January 1991.

The "suspension of the execution of the sentence" order accepted the request presented last November 21st by the lawyer Mauro Trogu, defender of the prisoner, during the hearing of the review process of that sentence which inflicted the "end of sentence never ” to the shepherd of Burcei.

Decision arrived precisely on the basis of what emerged during the last hearings, mainly regarding what was stated on 14 November by the only survivor of the massacre, Luigi Pinna, who after 32 years revealed that he had recognized Zuncheddu as the perpetrator of the crimes after having seen a his photograph shown to him by the policeman Mario Uda, who was conducting the investigations, with irregular methods and timing.

Without considering that in reality the survivor could not recognize the killer, who had his face covered by tights. Zuncheddu has been free since this afternoon awaiting the sentence in this proceeding, expected in mid-December.

Only the residence obligation is in force against him.
