The shutdown of the zinc line at the Portovesme srl plant, the metallurgical company controlled by Glencore in Sulcis Iglesiente, began this morning at 6:00. The shutdown concerns the Sx plant (inaugurated about ten years ago), the electrolysis room and (downstream) the smelting.

The shutdown was brought forward (it had been scheduled for December 31) due to a technical problem . The company's decision to shut down the plants (the Waelz departments are still operating) was determined by the high costs of energy.

The strong protest of the workers continues . The organizations have sent a request for a meeting at Mimit to address the dispute.
