«A serious act of vandalism despite the commitment made by the school institution with integration and inclusiveness activities. An episode that makes you think."

The bitter comment of Alessandro Pinna, teacher of the Brunelleschi middle school, the complex of the Istituto Comprensivo 1 of Porto Torres was targeted by some boys who, on Friday morning, around 9am, vandalized the gym of the school building after having also damaged a car.

A group of young students from the Paglietti Higher Institute would be involved, in turmoil on the occasion of the Liberatio Scholarum, the "liberation" of middle and high school students by university freshmen. They damaged furniture, chairs and the playing field.

«From outside they threw a large boulder which shattered the upper glass of the gym. Chairs were scattered on the ground, athletics equipment and a barrier were thrown into the stands. Not happy, they continued their vandalism, emptying two boxes of chalk with which they traced the floor", said Sara Carta, Spanish teacher and school coordinator.

«It all started just before 9, when the first period lesson was in progress. From the windows downstairs I noticed that some young people were arriving, kicking and punching the window frames, then as I went upstairs a larger group entered from the main courtyard. They scattered around the perimeter of the courtyard and we lost sight of them. They managed to enter the gym. One of the collaborators heard screams coming right from the sports facility, kids he didn't recognize among our students. So I called the police."

The military rushed to the scene immediately. The internal rooms and the external square of the Brunelleschi school are heavily monitored by cameras, positioned everywhere.

The images from the video surveillance system are being examined by the Carabinieri of the Porto Torres company who have already identified some young people. It cannot be ruled out that some external troublemakers joined the students.

Before the raid on the school, the gang of thugs had smashed the rear window glass of the car of a high school teacher, Flavio Piras. It was parked in Piazza Walter Frau, in front of the local police headquarters. The video surveillance system is also active in that area.

«I am disappointed, certainly not by the damage suffered to the car, – comments the Philosophy teacher, Flavio Piras. «The thing that shocked me the most is the social meaning that arises from a gesture considered in its context and I am referring to the news I later learned about the damage to the middle school by some rowdies. There is a generational problem in which we must all feel involved and mobilised, from families to schools, through politics and the network of local associations. We need to act and do it soon to all together combat the social degradation that is compromising the future of our children."

The head teacher of the Paglietti Institute, Daniele Taras, adds: «We must be certain of who the authors of this serious episode are before making our considerations and actions. Once those responsible have been identified, we must understand what interventions and measures to take to make it clear that these uncivilized acts undermine the future of these children. If young people are citizens of tomorrow, society is built through good intentions and good actions."
