Covid infections are also increasing on the island: according to the latest Gimbe report in Sardinia there is a deteriorating performance for the currently positive people per 100 thousand inhabitants (210 compared to 168 in the previous survey) with an increase in new cases of 17.7% in the week between 8 and 14 December.

The number of infected people who need hospitalization is also increasing and for this reason a new Covid ward is being considered to reopen at the Santissima Trinità hospital in Cagliari.

This was announced by the medical director of the hospital unit of the Assl of Cagliari Sergio Marracini: "We never wanted to do this, but obviously the situation could require it - he explains - between today and tomorrow morning we will have a briefing with the managers and heads of the department of surgical area and with the medical director of Ats and let's see. Certainly patients are arriving at the Binaghi hospital from all over Sardinia and therefore we have considerably increased the number of hospitalized patients. And then there is this strong resistance to vaccination by a slice of the population who moves and infects ".

Currently at the Binaghi hospital in Cagliari there are 78 hospitalized in the four Covid wards and of these 44 are not vaccinated while the data of another 8 are not known. Among the 26 vaccinated, most are frail elderly.
