The flames devoured centuries-old olive groves, fields and Mediterranean scrub, leaving no escape even for the animals present in the over 350 hectares of land devastated by the fire . In Orotelli, after a night of bated breath, the fire is under control .

But there was a lot of fear, with clouds of smoke in the sky red from the fire fueled by the mistral that have threatened the town since last night . The firefighting operations were difficult, not even the rugged orography of the terrain and the lack of communication routes helped. A livestock farm was completely destroyed and dozens of cattle died. We are now awaiting the mayor's order to create a mass grave to bury the animals. On site, in the Su Venos area, two Canadair and six helicopters of the regional Forestry Corps have been operating since yesterday: Farcana, San Cosimo, Fenosu, Villasalto, Pula, Alà dei sardi and Anela. Only this morning was the fire put out with the last launches of a Canadair arriving from Olbia and the helicopter from Farcana (Nuoro). The reclamation continues with the work of the ground teams of the Foresters, the Forestas Agency, the Fire Brigade and the regional civil protection

The operations were coordinated on site by the director of the Orani Forestry Corps patrol. Four teams of the Nuoro firefighters also operated throughout the night, for a total of 20 men and 10 vehicles, supported by a Tas expert and Sapr personnel with drones sent by the Sardinia regional directorate.

Now that the flames have been put out, the Forestry Corps of the Nuoro district is carrying out inspections in the area to estimate the exact extent of the damage. The firefighters will also fly over the affected area today with the help of their drones while investigations are underway by the judicial police unit of the Forestry Corps, to understand the origin of the flames and whether the fire could also have a negligent or malicious.
