After a few days of respite, thefts have resumed in commercial premises in the San Benedetto neighborhood, particularly in the area between Via Cavaro and Via Machiavelli. In the latter street, during the night between Thursday and Friday, another episode: “Balloon Express Shop”, a party supplies store, was targeted. Compared to many other break-ins, this one took place in a slightly different way: from the back entrance, rather than the main one. But always with the same objective, namely the cash fund.
"They had already tried a few months ago," notes Federico Onida, owner of the place. "It happened from the main entrance, but after a previous theft attempt we had already secured everything. The other night they entered from behind: they skipped more than one courtyard, forced a locked door and stole the cash register ."
Thieves have been targeting the San Benedetto neighborhood for several months, but so far they have not been identified. In particular, between the end of January and the beginning of February , there were almost daily thefts at night, during closing hours, but also during the day. And all to steal the cash fund, often a few dozen euros. In mid-November, however, the "break-in" of the window of a bar in via Corelli, not far away .
Shopkeepers and residents have asked for an intervention by the Municipality, with Mayor Massimo Zedda who has provided for the strengthening of street lighting and asked for a meeting with the Prefect to intensify the controls of the police forces . But, for now, it has not been enough: «We ask for more security: it is becoming worrying, it has also happened in the afternoon and not only at night», concludes the owner of "Balloon Express Shop".
