Thirty-seven fishing traps : this is the booty seized by the Oristano harbor master's office. They were illegally positioned inside the buoy field of Mare Morto , an area exclusively used for the mooring of pleasure craft. A few days ago an important activity to combat illegal fishing took place within the protected marine area of Sinis coordinated by the Captaincy with the technical-scientific support of the operators of the Amp.

The pots seized, probably in the sea for some time, contained several specimens of fish that were still alive , which were promptly put back into the sea and then saved. Among these, there are two moray eels, a conger eel, several serrani and a dozen scorpion fish, to which are added numerous mouthfuls. "The intervention that allowed the seizure of the fishing gear falls within the scope of the actions for the protection and implementation of the surveillance activity within the Marina del Sinis area , signed in the memorandum of understanding between the municipal body and the police forces, created in order to strengthen the institutional collaboration relationship for the prevention, research and repression of violations - explained the mayor Andrea Abis -. The boys involved in the Sinis Sentinels project , operating on the Sinis coast for the local project in collaboration with Legambiente, also contributed to the recovery and storage operations on land of the pots.

«The presence of fishing gear, such as gillnets, longlines and pots abandoned on the seabed is a widespread and current problem in our seas - specified the Councilor for Fisheries Alessandra Pinna -. These tools, if lost or sometimes deliberately abandoned, can remain on the seabed or float, and still move with the currents for years, interfering with marine biodiversity, damaging the ecosystem and also constituting a danger to navigation". The Councilor for the Environment Carlo Carta explains: "These are periodic interventions that must act as a deterrent for those who ignore the regulation of an area that must be respected in order to be able to regenerate".
