“Death as a result of maltreatment”.

This is the accusation at the bottom of the file opened by the Sassari Public Prosecutor's Office as part of the investigation into the death of a 51-year-old woman from Alghero, Stefania Monte , found lifeless at home on May 28 last year .

Prosecutor Giovanni Porcheddu ordered an autopsy on the woman's body and entered her companion, Daniele Riu, in the register of suspects.

From an initial autopsy report, performed in Sassari by coroners Francesco Lubinu and Sergio Rassu, no elements have emerged that demonstrate physical violence, but the results of the laboratory tests are now awaited to have a clearer picture of the causes of death.

According to what emerged in the early stages of the investigation, entrusted to the Carabinieri of the Alghero Company, the woman was seriously ill, bedridden, was not self-sufficient and needed specific assistance and treatment. An assistance that, according to the hypothesis that the prosecutor is verifying, would have been denied by the cohabitant, now under investigation.
