A fire in Aglientu engulfs 20 hectares of pine forest. The blaze engulfs homes and beaches, and swimmers are evacuated.

The fire that broke out this afternoon in the pine forest of Monti Russu , on the coast of Aglientu , has caused a very heavy toll .

Approximately 20 hectares of pine forest in the SIC area were destroyed by the fire , the local police of Aglientu had to intervene to evacuate bathers from two beaches close to the area affected by the fire.

The flames destroyed the sewage treatment plant in a village near provincial road 90, and the road (Castelsardo-Santa Teresa) remained closed for several hours while firefighting operations were carried out.

The fire grazed an area of houses and came very close to the residence near the provincial road.

The Tempio Forestry Inspectorate and the Luogosanto Forestry Station coordinated a large-scale firefighting operation involving two Canadair aircraft, a Super Puma helicopter, and another helicopter departing from the Limbara base. Cleanup operations are still ongoing, with teams from the Forestry Corps, Forestas, firefighters, Carabinieri, local police personnel from Aglientu, and dozens of volunteers from various local civil protection organizations in the area.

There is serious concern about a possible resurgence of the fire; regional firefighting crews will remain on site overnight.

The Forestry Corps immediately began an investigation. The safety of hundreds of people living in the area and the integrity of the Monti Russu Site of Community Importance have been put at risk . According to reports, an inspection of a power line is underway; Enel personnel are on site.
