Polls closed at 3:00 PM in nearly 750 Italian municipalities, 18 of which are provincial capitals, where local elections are being held . At the same time, ballot counting began at all polling stations.

The final turnout was 60.06% , down almost five percentage points from the previous election (64.9%). The region with the highest turnout was Umbria, with over 70.7% , while Molise recorded the lowest turnout (47.7%) .

THE PROJECTIONS – According to the first projections by Rai, in collaboration with the Opinio Italia consortium, the centre-right would be ahead in Venice with Venturini (51%), in Reggio Calabria with Cannizzaro (at 68.8%) and in Arezzo with Comanducci (46.1%) .

The center-left, however, is leading with former Campania governor De Luca in Salerno , already predicted to win in the first round with over 59% of the vote , followed by Biffoni in Prato (54.7%) and Legnini in Chieti (49.5%) . In Messina , centrist and civic list candidate for mayor Federico Basile is at 53.7% of the vote.
