Five people were killed by Iranian security forces during protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini , the 22-year-old tortured and killed by Tehran's moral police after she was arrested for not wearing a veil correctly . CNN reports this, citing the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, an organization that monitors violations of rights in Iran.

The victims - according to the same source - were killed by gunshots during demonstrations in the Kurdish region of Iran, where the young woman was originally from.

Another 75 people were injured in other cities over the weekend, again in the course of the wave of protest and indignation triggered by the Mahsa Amini story.

On top of the demands raised by the demonstrators, also supported by some parliamentarians, there is the abolition of the moral police, namely the Gasht-e Ershad, "death patrol" , which watches with an iron fist over the rules of tradition imposed by political and religious leaders of Iran.
