The case of the Russian drones in Poland is a "very serious" fact and "what is causing alarm is the fact that we are moving on a ridge from which we can slide into an abyss of uncontrolled violence" . This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella , speaking from Ljubljana on the first leg of his visit to Slovenia .

According to the Head of State, the events in Ukraine are further exacerbated by "the Kremlin's threatening statements to European countries, which are a cause for alarm. The risk of a conflict of unimaginable and uncontrollable proportions is extremely high."

Mattarella also addressed the conflict in the Middle East. "The situation," he said, "remains dramatic. After the dark episode of October 7th, with hostages still being held by Hamas in an unacceptable manner, the conditions are increasingly unacceptable and of tragic proportions. What is happening in Gaza is unacceptable: an entire population reduced to starvation is a condition that cannot be tolerated. Just as we cannot accept expelling a population or occupying territory in the West Bank, making a solution impossible in that region."

The President of the Republic also condemned the Israeli attack against Hamas leaders in Doha for negotiations. "The events in Qatar," the Head of State emphasized, "provoke the same concerns as those in Poland with Russian drones, because it is unacceptable to violate a country's sovereignty."
