Twelve US states are suing Donald Trump over tariffs, accusing him of not having the power to "impose tariffs arbitrarily".

The “dissident” states argue that only Congress has the power to legislate tariffs and are asking the Supreme Court to block the administration from implementing what they call “illegal tariffs.”

In recent days , California had already sued Trump over the duties, now eleven other states are joining the protest through legal action.

"President Trump," explained New York State Attorney General Letitia James, " does not have the power to raise tariffs at will, but that is exactly what he has done with these duties. Donald Trump promised that he would lower prices and ease the cost of living, but these illegal tariffs will have the exact opposite effect on American families. His tariffs are illegal and, if not stopped, will lead to more inflation, unemployment and economic damage."
