It was a suicide attack aimed at killing "a large number of people" among Taylor Swift's fans, the one planned by a 19-year-old Austrian of North Macedonian origins, who had sworn allegiance to ISIS and who wanted to strike during one of the artist's scheduled concerts in Vienna (later cancelled).

The young man was supposed to be acting together with two accomplices.

“He made a full confession and stated that he intended to commit an attack using explosives and weapons,” Omar Haijawi-Pirchner, director of the intelligence services (DSN), told a news conference. “His objective was to kill himself and a large number of people at the concert,” he added.

The second arrested person is instead "a 17-year-old boy", also Austrian of Turkish or Croatian origin, who had been "hired a few days ago by a subcontractor that was supposed to provide services to the stadium for the concert", added the head of the DSN. Both had had "a clear social change", explained the general director for public security, Franz Ruf, according to whom the 19-year-old had recently "flagrantly changed his appearance, adapting it to the propaganda of the Islamic State". The authorities confirmed that they had been put on his trail by information received from "foreign partners", but did not confirm that they were from the United States.
