Oscar Pistorius wants to serve the second half of his sentence for the murder of his girlfriend - Reeva Steenkamp, killed at dawn on Valentine's Day 2013 - in his home .

The battle of the South African Paralympic athlete has been going on since the beginning of last year, and his lawyers have turned to a court pointing the finger at the prison authorities, held responsible for the failure to convene the committee of experts: under South African law, there is the possibility of probation once half of the sentence has been served but, to get out of prison, a committee must hear the judgment of the psychologist, the social worker, the prison ward managers and, above all, the opinion of the victim's parents .

According to the Atteridgeville prison authorities, for a matter of notifications, Pistorius is not entitled to house arrest until next March, when half of the final sentence expires.

The controversy arose from the prolonged trial, with two appeals, which lasted from 2013 to 2018. The athlete was previously sentenced to six years for manslaughter. The attorney general appealed and the sentence was commuted to intentional homicide, with 13 years and 5 months in prison. It has never been definitively clarified whether or not the 506 days spent in the cell with the first sentence are included in the count.

According to the former athlete's attorney, Julian Knight, Pistorius has always been a model inmate and has all the requisites to pass the exam successfully and, at 35, spend the second half of his sentence in his own home.
