Elon Musk is under federal investigation in the United States for conduct in Twitter 's $ 44 billion purchase.

The Guardian reports this, citing a judicial act presented in court by the social platform: the document only states that Tesla's patron is under investigation, but does not indicate either the focus of the investigation or which authority has opened the investigation.

Twitter, which sued the billionaire in July to force him to close the deal, pointed out that Musk's lawyers invoked the "investigative privilege" and refused to hand over the required documents . Indeed, the social media adds, at the end of September the lawyers provided a "register of privileges" to identify the documents not to be disclosed, in particular the drafts of an email dated May 13 sent to the Securities and Exchange Commission (Sec) and a presentation to the Federal Trade Commission (Ftc).

" This little game of hiding the ball has to stop ," says Twitter. The file asking Delaware judge Kathaleen McCormick to order Musk's lawyers to provide the documents was filed on Oct.6, the same day McCormick suspended the litigation between the two parties after Musk backed down saying that he would proceed with the deal.

Alex Spiro, one of Musk's lawyers, told Reuters that the court case initiated by Twitter was a "misdirection" and said that " Twitter executives are under federal investigation ."
