«I am proud of the result . I started the week suffering a bit, I didn't have much time to adapt to the camps. As the tournament continued I felt better and better, I'm proud of how I handled the situations."

So Jannik Sinner after the victory at the Masters 1000 in Miami which made him number 2 in world tennis after overwhelming the Bulgarian Dimitrov in the final. «Being second in the general classification means a lot to me – he specified – but above all it was a great performance . Being number 2 is an incredible feeling. I never thought I'd get to this point. I come from a very normal family. My father still works, as does my mother. For me, sport is one thing, and life is another. I am very happy to be in this position . I'm enjoying every moment. These are special days to win a tournament. No matter what type of tournament, it's a special day. It means a lot to me".

«Today I won the important points, and this made the difference - added Sinner in an interview with Sky Sport -. In the last two matches I faced two totally different players like Dimitrov and Medvedev, and it's nice to find a different solution each time to face different opponents. Now there's red clay, and it's totally different. But even there, let's see how I handle things, and see how it goes."

«Happy Easter to all Italians, I really feel a lot of energy from you - the world tennis no.2 added -, I try to put it on the field. Without work the results do not arrive: if one works, the results arrive. See you in Italy, Monte Carlo is practically there."

Sinner, who from today is riding ahead of Carlitos Alcaraz in the ATP ranking and is the world no. 2, a feat never achieved by an Italian tennis player so far , has a track record of 22 victories from the beginning of 2024 and only one defeat. Now in the sights is the first position in the ranking occupied by Novak Djokovic, absent in Florida. The Serbian is just over 1000 points away, but will have to defend 2,315 on clay against Sinner's 585.
