«You are the pride of Sardinia, the example for many kids of your age who want to pursue a goal in any field». With these words the President of the Region, Michele Pais, welcomed Sergio Massidda, the vice world champion in weightlifting.

The 21-year-old athlete, originally from Ghilarza, was greeted in the Regional Council and told Pais about the beginnings of his career, his move to Rome where he competed for the Army and his many sporting goals. The president revealed that he is a big fan and that he constantly follows all the Sardinian athletes who also compete in national and international contexts.

«Very often in recent years – said Pais – Sardinia has climbed onto the most important podiums in the world. The will, determination, great physical and mental preparation of our athletes makes them overcome every difficulty. Sport is sacrifice, greater for Sardinian athletes."

As a gift to Massidda, the Quattro Mori flag to carry in future competitions, first and foremost the Olympics.
