An obsolete asbestos cement pipeline that breaks with disarming frequency. Two municipalities, Nuoro and Mamoiada, have been held hostage for years by these old pipes which in the summer of 2020 generated a long crisis, with the inhabitants remaining five days without water and intervention by the army and civil protection.
Then the great hope of seeing the end of the nightmare, thanks to the arrival of funding (one from Egas of 2,900,000 thousand euros in 2020) and the start of laying the new pipes . But after the conclusion of an initial intervention, a few months later, the work was stopped and never resumed again. The infrastructure, intended to put an end to the continuous water crises in the two centres, has thus entered the long list of unfinished projects.
In the municipality of Mamoiada, the mayor Luciano Barone raises his hands, «Abbanoa never gave me any news. I think it blocks any litigation. I only know that a very important work has been at a standstill for years and we risk continuous breakdowns and crises." Even in Nuoro there is little news in the municipality. The deputy mayor Fabrizio Beccu requests the resumption of work.
«Egas considers the intervention a priority, but all we know is that the work has been at a standstill for years. We need to start again because this is a fundamental infrastructure."
