The problem of wild boars arrives in the Alghero municipal council with an agenda presented by the UDC group (first signatory Christian Mulas).
The ungulates are also out of control in the Nurra area , they destroy the crops and are often the cause of road accidents . For this reason, with the agenda, the mayor and the council undertake to convene an open civic assembly shortly, with the participation of the Province of Sassari, Azienda Forestas, the Forestry Corps, Porto Conte Park, agricultural committees and associations environmentalists.
"The excessive presence of the wild boar negatively affects local ecosystems and biodiversity, as it tends to overwhelm the other species , causing their progressive disappearance," reads the document. The fear is that the uncontrolled spread of the species could turn into a health hazard "by facilitating the transmission of swine fever of which the wild boar is the vector ".
The regulatory tools to deal with the emergency, according to the UDC, are inadequate. The hunting period "should be freely established by the Regions", the agenda continues, "introducing the possibility of directly authorizing, if necessary, the owners or tenants in any capacity of the grounds in which damage has been ascertained, or their delegates , to carry out the activities of capturing and slaughtering the wild boar species, with the control of the local police bodies of the carabinieri and forestry corps with territorial jurisdiction".
