It was inaugurated just over two months ago , to the joy and enthusiasm of cyclists and citizens. But today the San Bartolomeo cycle-pedestrian bridge in Cagliari was closed . A temporary but necessary stop, after the rainwater drainage grates and the access gate to the staircase were stolen .
The decision was taken by the Strategic Works Service of the Municipality of Cagliari. The action of the vandals has made the place unsafe : the lack of drainage grates - explains the administration - "could expose the bridge to the risk of accidents for pedestrians and cyclists, especially at night, when visibility is reduced . The absence of a gate on the staircase is also dangerous." The Municipality offices are working to restore safety conditions. Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to identify those responsible for the theft and prevent further vandalism.
Meanwhile, the Municipality is evaluating the opportunity to install surveillance cameras and increase the presence of law enforcement in the area . «The closure of the cycle-pedestrian bridge - we read in a note - represents a significant inconvenience for residents, visitors and tourists, who use this infrastructure daily for local travel and recreational activities. For now, caution is in order. Citizens are advised to follow the instructions of the authorities and use alternative routes. Everyone's collaboration will be fundamental to overcome this emergency and ensure a rapid return to normality ."
