A psychiatric evaluation has been ordered for Masih Shahid, the 31-year-old Pakistani sentenced to life imprisonment in the first instance for the murder of Mirko Farci in Tortolì .

The Assize Court of Appeal of Cagliari, chaired by Massimo Costantino Poddighe, has decided that the experts will establish whether the man was capable of understanding and will at the time of the tragic events that occurred on 11 May 2021 .

The accused was present in the courtroom today, in the first hearing of the second degree trial. The judges also decided to unify this proceeding with the one in which Shahid himself was accused of domestic abuse towards his then partner, a crime for which he was sentenced to 3 years in first instance . However, the request for summary proceedings presented by Shahid's defense was rejected.

The psychiatric evaluation, requested by the defense lawyer Federico Delitala, was denied in the first trial . She was entrusted to the psychiatrist Giampaolo Pintor, who will illustrate the results in the next hearing scheduled for February 2nd. The Attorney General Michele Incani has appointed Professor Alessandra Nivoli, daughter of the famous Professor Giancarlo Nivoli, as a consultant.

A bloody event that shocked the entire island, which dates back to the dawn of May 11th two years ago. Masih Shahid, shortly before 5.30 in the morning, entered the home of his ex-partner Paola Piras, aged 54, in via Monsignor Virgilio in Tortolì . He stabbed her 17 times, reducing her to the point of death. Then he attacked Mirko, Paola's 19-year-old son who intervened to defend his mother, hitting him with 5 blows. The young man died, Paola Piras woke up from a coma after a month .
